• CAR BOOT SALES — First Sunday of every month during our main season, 8 am - 12 pm.

Kids in Museums

• Step Back Together family activities will be on around the museum at all times.

• JOIN IN — with FREE demonstrations and workshops.

• The Old Kiln Light Railway operates every Sunday during the main open season.

• WORKING WEDNESDAYS — Come and meet our volunteer workforce all year.

• ACTIVITY THURSDAYS — Entertaining the kids in the School Holidays.

Please find below our exciting 2018 events to be held at the Rural life Centre.
On event days the museum is always packed with additional activities and demonstrations, making them excellent for family days out if you are looking for things to do with the kids.

Normal museum entry fees apply to all events unless otherwise stated.

July 22nd :
Ford MKII Car RallyFord MKII Car Rally

Ford MKII Independent day 2017. A selection of MKII Consuls, Zephyrs and Zodiacs 1956-62 will be on display. All classic cars are welcome. A trophy will be presented for best visitors Classic Car. Come along and join us for a fun filled day.





July 29th :
Rustic SundayRustic Sunday

The biggest annual event of the year, this festival of country life has lots to interest and entertain all ages. Children will love trying their hand at traditional crafts, riding on the steam train and there’s even a dolls house big enough for little ones to go into. The museum will be bustling with many stalls demonstrating crafts, delicious home-made food, a jazz band and a working steam roller. The children will also love watching the working blacksmith in the museum’s smithy. The reconstructed iron furnace and the wood yard will both be in action.

August 5th :

SEPTEMBER

September 1st & 2nd :
Rural Life Vintage RevivalVintage Revival

Promising a wealth of entertainment for all ages, from dance classes to makeovers, stalls and live music. The Dance Movement will be offering tuition and demos in 1940s and 50s dances, accompanied by the joyous tones of a Glenn Miller tribute band. An evening tea dance will also offer visitors the chance to show off their Jive and Lindy hop on the Saturday. There will also be a display of hot rods and other vintage cars. All visitors are welcome to dress up for the occasion, and stallholders will sell vintage wares from the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

September 9th :
Donkey Day OutDonkey Day Out

There are all sorts of stories and legends surrounding donkeys, which have been used as working animals for at least 5,000 years. The day will feature talks, demonstrations and displays. The organisers say that the aim of the event is for everyone to have a relaxing time...and that includes the donkeys!





September 16th :
Classic Vehicle GatheringClassic Vehicle Gathering

With the patience to preserve the past, its no wonder classic vehicles have such enduring popularity. Last year’s event, organised by the Surrey Classic Vehicle Club, attracted about 500 entries; not just sleek-bonneted cars, but many other wonderfully wheeled forms of transport representing manufacturers from around the world. From bikes to buses, cars to camper vans, the recognisable to the rather rare, the Classic Vehicle Gathering seems certain to delight everyone.



September 23rd :
Teachers' DayTeachers' Day

Free Entry for teachers and their families. Come and find out about heritage learning opportunities at this countryside museum.



OCTOBER

October 7th :
Harvest HomeHarvest Home

Autumn means the end of the farming year, a time when farmers and farming communities have traditionally given thanks for Nature’s abundance and let their hair down after a hectic season. At Harvest Home everyone is welcome to take part, admire the harvest crops and join us to give thanks for the seasonal bounty. Join us in the evening for a traditional barn dance with live music by Bridget and Sandy Flett. Join us for this day of celebration.



October 7th :

October 14th :
Land Rover DayLand Rover Day

LAND ROVERS, the ultimate definition of vehicle dependability, will be on parade. Rugged, reliable and always relevant, Land Rovers have been a major presence at home and abroad since 1948 when they debuted at the Amsterdam Motor Show. Adaptable to almost any environment, they will be flexing their muscle and horsepower thanks to the Southern Central Vintage Agricultural Club (SCVAC) who are based at the museum and are hosting the show.







October 27th :
All Hallows EveAll Hallows Eve

The floorboards are creaking with sounds of ghosts from long past. Join us on the ghost train for a magical evening of activities and stories — if you dare (3pm -6.30pm)



NOVEMBER

November 1st :
Winter OpeningWinter Opening

It's been a busy year for us and we still have more events to come, so don't miss our final events of the year. Now is the time for us to begin our Winter hours. From today until the beginning of March next year we will have restricted opening times: Wednesdays & Sundays only, from 11 am to 4 pm. We have even reduced the Winter admission charges!



November 10th :
Christmas Craft FairChristmas Craft Fair

A great diversity of craft will be on display; previous years have featured everything from toys, jewellery, cushions, to clocks and everything in between. As usual, you can buy not only that something special for someone special but get you will be able to get gift-wrap and cards too.
If you wish to have a stall then please use the application form as soon as you can.



DECEMBER

December 1st to 24th :
Christmas CardsOur own cards

Now is the time to think about those Christmas Cards!
The Museum Shop has a selection of cards featuring scenes from around the museum - take a look at them.

All profit from the cards goes to the museum, a registered charity.



December 8th, 9th, 15th & 16th :
Santa SpecialsSanta Specials

Mums and dads, grannies and granddads will find the place as enchanting as the children, with a ride through the woods on the Old Kiln Light Railway, a visit to the elves’ workshop and depending on the day, a chance to see sheep and donkeys at close hand. Twinkling lights, Christmas music and seasonal refreshments are included and of course, in their magical grotto Father and Mother Christmas will give a present to each child.
