Have you ever wondered how cider is actually made? On this hands-on, one-day course with Farnham’s Misty Moon Cider, you'll find out - and you'll make your own cider to take home and finish fermenting.

No experience needed. Just a sense of curiosity, clothes you don't mind getting messy in, and your own 5-litre demijohn.

2026 Course Dates:

· Friday 9th October.

· Saturday 10th October.

10:00am – 4:00 pm.

What you'll do on the day:

Meet your hosts - led by Kathryn Lockett, Founder of Misty Moon Cider, alongside Dr Jill Sudbury, who has been part of the Misty Moon Cider team since inception. Together they bring years of hands-on cider making experience to every session

Learn the fundamentals - apple varieties, what makes a good cider apple, and what to avoid

Taste a variety of different ciders - discover what you like and inspire the cider you’ll make yourself

Sort and prepare the apples - hands-on apple sorting and preparation, ready for milling

Get stuck in - mill and press the apples by hand, just as cidermakers have for centuries

Discover the craft - learn about fermentation, yeast, and all other the small decisions that turn apple juice into cider.

Set up your own demijohn - fill your own 5-litre demijohn (bring one with you, or there will be some to purchase at the training) with freshly pressed juice. By the time you go home, you’ll be all set up to ferment your cider at home over the following weeks (additional ingredients provided).

Optional take-home cider making kit - add a cider making starter kit (fermentation bucket, airlock and rubber stopper, hydrometer), so you can carry on making your own cider at higher quantities.

Take home Misty Moon Cider - bottles of our own cider included, to enjoy while yours is fermenting

Enjoy a relaxed lunch - delicious, high quality food and refreshments included throughout to make the day even more enjoyable. All dietary requirements catered for.

Location: Rural Life Living Museum, The Reeds Road, Tilford, Farnham, Surrey, GU10 2DL.
