Learning Team Details

The role: (please note, we are only able to offer this role if you are 18+)

We're seeking talented individuals to join our fantastic learning team. Each day is unique, as we work with diverse groups with their own distinctive experiences. Our museum offers a core set of workshops that explore the Victorian era and Britain's Home Front during WWII. In addition, we also provide customised sessions based on the volunteers' skills and the group's interests. If you have a particular skill that you're passionate about and would like to share, please get in touch. We value your creative input and enthusiasm.

Our team’s focus is being as hand-on with history as possible, so you must be comfortable getting involved. (And yes, costumes are encouraged!)

You do not need to have experience in museums, history, learning or education to apply. All you need is curiosity and interest in history, to enjoy working in a team and to be willing to learn and inspire others.

We can offer you:

• The support and training to develop your confidence, teamwork, communication, and knowledge so you can interact with visitors through a range of hands-on learning activities.

• The chance to get involved, have fun, and to help build special memories for visitors.

• Free entry to the site all year round, including special events, tea, coffee, and refreshments.

• Be part of a social community of over 100+ volunteers.

Reports to:
Head of Learning and Discovery, Alex Fowler.

Time Commitments:

Our school visits usually last from 10am to 2pm and each workshop spans between 35 to 45 minutes. Additionally, we offer Twilight Sessions for Brownies/Scouts during summer months, that typically run from 5:30pm to 7pm* after the museum is closed. *Times subject to change depending on the group.

We believe in being prepared, which is why Alex works hard to provide learning team volunteers with available sessions several months ahead of time. This is necessary as school bookings come in and we deliver our annual public program.

The learning team operates all week long, but it's not a full-time obligation for volunteers. Activities are planned based on the skill sets of volunteers and their availability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To engage and excite the visitors about the subject in hand..

• To build a rapport with the visitors.

• To lead a fun and educational session.

• To value the museum’s aims, objectives, and ethics..

• To be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances..

If you would like to come and visit us for a cup of tea and chat beforehand, please let us know and we can arrange a time. Please send an email to alex.fowler@rural-life.org.uk.

If this sounds like you, please fill out the form below. Come and join a hands-on learning team in a beautiful setting.
